Facts about Generic Medications

Fact # 1 Generic drugs are chemically the same as brand-name drugs
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that a generic drug must contain the same active ingredients and must be equivalent in therapeutic strength and dosage to the original brand name product.

Fact # 2 Generic Drugs are as safe and effective as their brand-name equivalent
The FDA requires that all drugs be safe and effective, so generic must meet the same rigid manufacturing and quality control standards as the brand-name drug.

Fact # 3 Generic drugs save you money
Generic drugs typically cost 30-75% less than their brand-name equivalent.
